Tye (she/her) was drawn to Pilates as a conditioning method to accompany her contemporary dance pursuits. Living with hypermobile joints, Tye found it difficult to feel centered in movement. Pilates helped her develop a sense of stability, from her core to her fingertips. A new sense of grounded-ness led to a relief of tension in her body and mind. Tye’s passion for building strength—through functional movement and mindfulness—is what led her to teach Pilates!

As a young instructor, Tye approaches each session with curiosity and enthusiasm.  She’s known by clients for her creative imagery and sharp eye for detail. Tye's sessions are explorative in nature, with a focus on relieving tension and fostering deep body awareness. She believes in taking plenty of time when practicing Pilates movements, sometimes pausing in the “sticky” spots— for it's those moments where strength and ease-fullness can find balance. She hopes her students leave class feeling a sense of harmony: both strong and easeful, sturdy and lengthened, energized and at peace.

Over the course of two-and-a-half years, and 900 hours of teacher training, Tye completed her Pilates Teaching Certificate at the University of Wisconsin-Madison under Collette Stewart and Liz Sexe. Based in functional anatomy and the classical Pilates method, Tye’s comprehensive Pilates education covered the Reformer, Cadillac, Chair, Mat, and various accessories. Tye is based in NYC and teaches at The Pilates Local, Violet Hour Pilates, and Dou Yoga.
